Black Veil Brides released their new self-titled album “IV” via Universal Records. It is the follow-up to Wretched and Divine : The Story of the Wild Ones.
Produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Mötley Crüe), the record is a tasteful blend of melodic traditional rock ’ n’ roll and heavy metal sounds. Bob Rock is a great pick because he brought out the best in Black Veil Brides.
It is raw and honest. It is also a collective work , diverse, but cohesive and more focused. The final result is both fierce and epic. It is full of energy. Heart of Fire was a perfect glimpse for the rest of the album. It is heavier and grittier. IV is the mirror of themselves. It represents their identity and where they are currently. Lyrically, it deals with personal things that frontman Andy Biersack was experiencing.
Musically, it sounds a natural progression but also a more accomplished work while keeping the album dynamic, very melodic specially on the stand out tracks The Shattered God and Crown of Thorns. There are more vocal nuances that fit with music perfectly. Love the harmony (vocals/guitars) on The Shattered God.
On the other hand, the musicianship is top notch at any level. Last Rites is an example among others. The riffs are appealing ,creating interesting dark atmospheres.
The palette is endless and inventive. Dual guitar attacks deliberately intertwine just enough to spice the things up and break apart to create other atmospheres with great bass lines and superb drumming(Drag Me To The Grave, The Shattered God).
The two guitarists weave together a rich tapestry of sonic textures , both incendiary and creative. Devil In the Mirror is an example among others. There is a noticeable depth of both harmony and melody in their playing in Heart Of Fire. The twin guitar attack is excellent (highly recommended on Crown of Thorns) and varied. Faithless features a well-balanced, lusty and rich dual guitar assault.
The album also has softer moments with two rock ballads GoodBye Agony and, Walk Away. The two anthems feature gorgeous melodies, soaring guitar solos. While you can enjoy a raw emotion on Goodbye Agony which is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful songs they have ever done. Walk Away features a piano intro and an orchestrated section
All in all, IV is their best work to date. They redefine the genre rock/heavy metal and they do with an unmistakable honesty and a convincing enthusiasm that captivates the listeners.
